The key to breaking our cycles that keep us from moving forward into God’s plan for us is understanding the difference between reacting vs responding. As we learn more about ourselves and how we react to stress we can learn how to respond with faith and began to break the chains that bind us. In this session, we will wrap up our series with understanding how God has responded to our stresses and challenges and how faith is the key to receiving it.
The most interesting and powerful of our F-word instincts is Freeze. While Flight and Fight prompt action, Freeze prompts a non-action. When the Enemy’s F-word of Fear is applied to this, we can become completely paralyzed. It's in these times when understanding faith is so crucial. In this session, we will learn about what to do when you don’t know what to do and how applying Faith to our Freeze instinct helps us in even the most traumatic moments of life.
Everyone loves a fighter! Our Fight instinct is what helps us to stand up against the opposition. But are we fighting the wrong battles? Sometimes our fight instinct has us feeling we are always in a fight needing to always keep our guard up. The problem is, this constant guard keeps out help, love and encouragement as well. In this session, we will learn how faith is the key to victory over life’s greatest battles. Applying faith to our fight will help us rely on God strength and break from the cycle of the constant battle.
When stress hits, we all react with an F word. Flight, Fight or Freeze. These instincts are there to help protect us from physical and emotional harm. Our Flight instinct protects us by getting us away from harm and to safety. But we have to know where safety really is or we can be running to things that harm us even more over and over again in an endless cycle. Faith allows us to see where we really should be running to. This session we will be learning more about faith and how applying it to our flight instinct drastically changes our focus.
Sometimes faith feels complicated, but Jesus made it simple. When asked which commandment was the Greatest, He boiled all of them down to a simple but profound idea, Love God and love your neighbor as yourself. In this two-week series, we’ll explore what a single “love” command tells us about God’s character, how to actually love God and our neighbors, and what loving ourselves has to do with any of it. 12-2-18 // Pastor Cuyler Black High School Experience 12-9-18 // Pastor Cuyler Black
Life Group One of the toughest and most constant parts of life is CHANGE. It can feel like everything should come with a warning label that it’s *subject to change. This month we are focusing on reinforcing the truth that although life constantly changes, God doesn't! This foundational truth has the power to bring the strength and peace needed to overcome stress and anxiety. In this life where everything changes, we can trust that God doesn’t. 11-4-18 // Karen Veenstra High School Experience 11-11-18 // Karen Veenstra
Life Group Everyday, whether we know it or not, we are constantly assigning value to things. Whether it's a decision about making a purchase at the mall or deciding how to spend your time, we prioritize by what we think is worth it. Have you noticed though how we also apply value to people as well as ourselves. The idea of a person's value can be a little scary. The great news is our value isn’t assigned to us by man but by God ! You can have a new perspective and confidence when you discover your true value and learn that you are indeed worth it! 10-7-18 // Pastor Jonathan Wilson High School Experience 10-14-18 // Pastor Jonathan Wilson
Life Group We're kicking off our new series Anxious for Nothing by learning how to deal with anxiety. We live in an Age of Anxiety. In fact, anxiety disorders in the U.S. are ranked as the #1 mental health problem among women and #2 among men, second only to drug and alcohol abuse. Most alarmingly, the average high school student today experiences the same level of anxiety as the average psychiatric patient did in the early 1950's! So, what's the CAUSE behind this epidemic? Just a few of the things that contribute to killing our composure include rapid social change, advanced technology, constant global threats, media saturation, and even our own personal crises. If you struggle with stress, anxiety, or fear of the future... God wants to write a new chapter in your story this Fall! 9-16-18 // Pastor Jonathan Wilson Life Group 9-23-18 // Pastor Jonathan Wilson
